How to play Merge 2048

Merge 2048 is the number puzzle where every move slides the whole board. Two equal tiles that collide become one doubled tile — keep merging until you build a 2048.

Steps

  1. Swipe, drag, or use the arrow keys to slide every tile in one direction.
  2. Tiles with the same number merge into one tile worth double.
  3. After every move a new 2 or 4 appears in a free square.
  4. Reach 2048 to win — then keep going for a bigger tile.

Tips that actually help

What is Merge 2048?

Merge 2048 is a sliding number puzzle played on a 4×4 grid. Every swipe moves all tiles at once; when two tiles carrying the same number collide they fuse into a single tile with double the value. A new tile appears after each move, so the board fills up faster than you can clear it — the skill is in never letting the grid lock.

Why the order of your moves matters

Most games are lost in the last thirty moves, not the first. Once all sixteen squares are occupied, a single careless swipe in the wrong direction can pull your largest tile out of its corner and end the run. Experienced players move in only two directions for long stretches and treat the other two as emergency options.

No timer, no rush

There is no clock and no move limit. Undo is available, so a mis-swipe is never fatal. That makes it a good game for a two-minute break or for playing with one hand while something else is going on.
